French police move from Windows to Ubuntu

In a move set to continue the large savings in licensing fees French Police forces are moving from Windows to Linux as they begin to replace aging systems. I wouldn’t be surprised if they also have Linux put on some of those aging systems to breathe extra life into them.

Improve performance in Ubuntu and OpenOffice.org

I was looking up some ways to speed up a default Ubuntu install so my kids would feel better when they get stuck on the slower kid computer I have it installed on. There was also some great advice on settings changes to make to OpenOffice.org that helped it load faster even on my Windows systems.
